Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people, and achieved superstar status through his pop-folk songs based on folk, with a lot of them being set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in love with Colorado and eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's state anthems have inspired many to visit Colorado. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the director of this hall of fame, stated: "I don't believe there is another performer that embodies Colorado in the same way as John Denver." In the year 2011, Denver was chosen as the first Hall of Fame inductee. He has become the personification of Colorado for people all over. When I travel, I always come across someone on the opposite part of the globe, someone who is from New Zealand and you say 'I'm from Colorado and the very first thing that comes that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint as a folk musician, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff wrote the track in the name of Johnny Cash but Denver recognized its potential when he first heard it. Danoff recorded the track only a few days afterward after performing it to the awe-inspiring crowd in Washington D.C.
